EXPERIENCE THE FREEDOM OF YOUR OWN HOME BUSINESS!

Are You An Entrepreneur?

Are you the type of person willing to take upon a new venture or enterprise and accept full responsibility for the outcome? Can you create value by offering a product or service?

Do you have strong beliefs about market opportunity? Can you organize your resources effectively to accomplish an outcome that changes existing interactions?

  • Entrepreneurs are primarily motivated by an overwhelming need for achievement and strong urge to build.
  • We have an enthusiastic vision, the driving force of an enterprise.
  • Our vision is usually supported by an interlocked collection of specific ideas not available to the marketplace.
  • With persistence and determination, we develop strategies to change our vision into reality.
  • We take prudent risks. We assess costs, market/customer needs and persuade others to join and help.

Does A Market Exist And Does One Exist For You?

Entrepreneurship is the practice of starting new organizations or revitalizing mature organizations, particularly new businesses generally in response to identified opportunities. Entrepreneurship is often a difficult undertaking, as a vast majority of new businesses fail.

The acts of entrepreneurship is often associated with uncertainty, particularly when it involves bringing something really novel to the world, whose market never exists. Before the Internet, nobody knew the market for Internet related businesses such as Amazon, Google, YouTube, Yahoo etc. Only after the Internet emerged did people begin to see opportunities and market in that technology. However, even if a market already exists, such as the market for cola drinks (which has been created by Coca Cola), there is no guarantee that a market exists for a particular new player in the cola category.

  • What kind of product do you want to market?
    • Products that can be marketed include: all goods, services, and ideas that are sold or traded. Products can be either tangible as in the case of physical goods, or intangibles such as those associated with service benefits or ideas (intellectual property) or any combination of the three.

  • Can you describe your market?
  • Can you describe your niche and why you chose it?
    • In other words, who are the propective customers for your product, service or idea? For example, if you were to build a solar-powered car, you would be entering the automobile market and perhaps looking to sell your vehicle in regions with lots of sun. Or perhaps your niche would be selling to people of a certain income or people who live in cities.

  • If you're entering a new market, can you explain why there is a need for your offering?
  • If you're entering an established market, can you discuss in detail the competitive advantage your product or service has over the competition?
    • When planning your ad, you should first define your product's Unique Selling Proposition (USP). To find the USP, ask yourself "How is this product different?" Make a list of your product's pros and cons. This will help you think about what message you want your ad to send.

  • Can you price your product or service competitvely and still maintain a healthy profit margin?

  • How will you reach your target market? Television, radio, print, web site, direct mail, trade shows, public relations, promotional materials, telephone sales, one-on-one sales, strategic alliances?
  • How will you distribute your product or service to your customers? Will you mail order, personally deliver, hire sales reps, contract with distributors or resellers, or use some other method?
    • Let's say you feel you have a product or service that shows promise for success thru promotion by Mail Order publication advertising. You'll first want to make sure your product is not widely offered in retail outlets. If it is then it may be no good for your home based business. So shop around carefully and talk with sales clerks about what they think of your product.
    • Your next step should include 8 hours or more in the public library, pouring thru publications that traditionally carry ads on products similar to yours. You will be looking for: competitive ads on the same product; ideas for layout and copy you can use in preparing your ad; which months seem to be best (when do most ads run) for promotion of such products; which magazines seem best for your test ad; any ideas you can gather from other advertisers which can improve your presentation.

  • What are the costs associated with your proposed delivery method(s)?

Entrepreneurship Is About Taking Risk.

In business, there are no guarantees. There is simply no way to eliminate all the risks associated with starting a small or home based business - but you can improve your chances of success with good planning, preparation, and insight.

It's true that there are many reasons not to start your own business. But for the right person, the advantages of business ownership far outweigh the risks.

  • You will be your own boss.
  • Hard work and long hours directly benefit you, rather than increasing profits for someone else.
  • Earning and growth potential are far greater.
  • A new venture is as exciting as it is risky.
  • Running a business provides endless challenge and opportunities for learning.

Gather as much information as you can (read, talk with experts, etc.); brainstorm over time. Just think about the problem or issue until an idea comes to you.
